Is red bull and monster bad for you?

Recommended Posts

I have been on the depo shot for 3 years now. My dr said I might gain 10 lbs from it. What she didnt mention was that I would gain 10 pounds a year. I love the shot but i hate this weight gaining thing. I am 5'7" and always maintained 7% body fat without working out. Even after giving brith to my two kids I went right back to my weight (about 125) within a few weeks just sitting around. I had a horrible diet of fast food everyday at lunch becuase it was convenient. Anyway...I never gained weight. Just trying to give you an idea of how i was. I went from a size 3 or 5 depending on the fit of the clothes to a 7 and now bordering a 9. I cannot stand it anymore. So i decided since i have to stay on the shot i need to workout.

Here's my question. I have to get up every morning at 530 am. Its the only time i have. My bf leaves for work at 7am and i have two kids at home so i cannot go after work or dinner considering i dont get home til 7 already. He doesnt get home til about 10pm on average. I cant get to bed early because i am in school too and i have to study. So basically I am stuck going to bed about 11pm and waking up at 530 am.

Is monster or red bull ok to have in the morning? I am not trying to pick up any bad habits. I dont know how packed full of calories or sugar they are and i dont want to have to work out harder just to offset my can of red bull.

Once i start working out will i feel like i have more energy or less? i heard that working out gives you more energy during the day but 530 am is just so unappealing (but so is my stomach, hips and thighs). they arent huge or anything but back fat is digusting to me and i am not used to not being in shape. you can actually feel the fat giggle when you walk. its gross.

Anyway...any help is appreciated. I used to work out in high school but havent since then. I was 10 years younger so of course i had more energy not to mention i had the time set aside to do it everyday.

Well...thats what i want to do. But being divorced and having had dating experience most guys want the option available. And honestly...I am not 100% sure i wouldnt want to have a baby with someone that i were to get married to. So i am still kicking it around. however i am getting closer to going that route. I am in a very serious relationship right now...seems to be heading that way so we need to have a serious talk about this baby stuff. I want my hormones back!!!

Google is your friend:

Red Bull Energy Drink

Ingredients: carbonated water, sucrose, glucose, sodium citrate, taurine, glucuronolactone, caffeine, inositol, niacin, D-pantothenol, pyridoxine HCL, vitamin B12, artificial flavours, colors

Nutrition Facts: Serving Size: 8.3 fl. oz Servings per Container: 1 Amount per serving: Calories: 110 Total Fat: 0g Sodium: 200mg Protein: 0g Total Carbohydrates: 28g Sugars: 27g

I believe there's a sugar free version of Red Bull. Don't know how "good" either one is for you, and I don't know if the sugar-free version packs as much punch to wake you up. It's mostly the caffeine and sugar in there that gives you the energy, so you might try coffee. I also don't know how good caffeine is for you just before a workout.

As far as I know, Depo makes you gain weight because it increases your appetite. You might try changing your diet as well as exercise.

But, if I were you, I'd look into another method of birth control. A study came out in 2004 that showed the longer you are on Depo, the more calcium you lose that is stored in your bones. The calcium doesn't necessarily all return after you stop the shot, so you're at risk for osteoperosis. It's really not a good long-term form of birth control.

At the very least, you should be taking calcium supplements.

Dag Almost not to slap you around but don't you already have like 2-3 kids and your bf or F have like 2-3 kids and posts that you cannot afford to have them live all in the same house? A baby would certainly add onto the financial problems and hinder your career too.

How bout getting the bf neutered........cheaper and quicker.

If you think you want another baby one day, the sooner you get off Depo, the better. It can take up to two years or longer to start ovulating again after being on Depo...

I know...i saw that report recently. its just that i cannot take any other forms of birth control. me and my dr tried everything.

And yes i have 5 kids collectively and school for a career...but i wouldnt have any children until i am done with school. which is 8 years from now. I know i am not going to have anymore kids but i guess i like that i can if i choose to. And its pointless to have his kids with us because he works 6 days a week and 70-80 hours every week. his kids would be with me. and from a child from a divorce situation...id rather be with a natural parent (either one) then left with a step parent. Just my opinion.

We are having a serious talk one of these days when i actually do get to see him again (he has been working 16 hour days lately) and that is a topic i want to bring up. I just dont have any more room in my life for another child. he wants one with me but wont drop me if i wont. tough decision telling the person that you love you dont want a child with him.

Oh and yes...i do know having children after 30 increases the risk in pregnancies for mental retardation and physical development issues. this is primarily the reason i dont want a child after i finish school. i will be 34 yrs old. i would feel guilty watching my child go through the pain and suffering of that

I don't think they're necessarily bad for you. They have sugar free Red Bull that only has 10 calories. I drink that before workouts (either in the morning or night) and it helps give a little energy boost.

I have been eating just three meals a day. Healthy breakfast usually 7 grams of fat or under but trying to skip it or eat fruit. Lunch i have been eating salads with lowfat or no fat dressing. no cheese or eggs...just meat sometimes like coldcuts or whatever but mostly just a salad. then i have been eating a healthy dinner.

I am down to under 40 fat grams a day. eveyrthing else is under what i am allowed too. i cannot eat any healthier and its killing me that i still keep gaining. I have been doing this for 8 months religously

I think the less you eat, the better your body learns to cope with few calories. I've read more than one article that said that a good way to keep the weight down is to vary the calories you eat so your metabolism can't get into a pattern of conserving calories because you're not having a lot of them.

Red Bull has got a ton of caffeine. I don't know if it's the healthiest thing to do first thing in the morning with no food in you. I'd think that a light breakfast with protein and carbs might fuel you for exercise better.

Anything is good in moderation.

Personally I won't touch Red Bull, Monster, or any of those other high energy drinks because of the crap they cram straight into them.

I would go with green tea in the AM (I *heard* that green tea may help with weight problems). Just a few days ago, the news was crawling with all of the harmful side effects of energy drinks. Having them before you work out is bad news too: not only are they full of caffeine (caffeine drains your cells of water, which you need while working out), but I heard that it speeds up your heart rate, which could potentially be dangerous. This came out after a football player, I think, died from drinking a large amount of energy drinks before practice.

Definately double check my information though!

It sounds like your doing more than a good job of keeping calories and fat down but you have to vary your meals a little more. You can't eat the same foods over and over every day for every meal. You also need to get as much exercise as possible. Dieting AND exercise is the best way to lose weight. Set aside time to take a jog, preferably, or a walk just a couple times a week. Exercise will boost your metabolism, over time, don't expect to lose weight quickly and do to your best to stay positive and optimistic. Drink plenty of water, water will make you weigh more but it will in NO WAY effect how you look or the amount of fat you have on your body. Being hydrated will make you feel better and help aid in burning fat. If your very subconscious about your weight because of drinking too much water just remember that it will soon pass as your body naturally uses H20.
