whichwayisup
ALL fears are learned behaviour and the good thing is, it can be undone with the help of CBT.
Author KittenMoon
one must look at the individuals background. Did their parents teach them how to deal with fears or did they recreate their own fears in their kids? did the parents deal with changes well? how did it affect their kids? i cannot tell you how many swim students i have that are scared of the water.... and why? because their parents are scared of the water. children mimik their parents and will mirror the parents fears because they are "taught" it is what is right. Very true. I'm often stuck wondering if environment causes imbalances, or imbalances cause inappropriate reactions to environment. Is depression caused by serotonin imbalance or does depression cause serotonin imbalance? I admit to having many issues/fears related directly to my mother, and yet with other issues/fears we're polar opposites. There's got to be a way to simplify these complexities... laRubiaBonita
There's got to be a way to simplify these complexities... that is what makes it sooo hard to treat different people. each person has a certain set of factors involved in why they are and act the way they do, environmental, psychological, physical, emotional, etc.... no two people suffering from the same problems are identical, nor will every person respond to the same treatments. alphamale
.... no two people suffering from the same problems are identical, nor will every person respond to the same treatments. that may be true now LRB but once we find the "missing link" thru science then everyone will respond to the same treatments. we just don't have the knowledge or capability right now. maybe in 100 yrs. This is true... I mean, rational psychiatry hasn't been around very long. Neither has hormonal or brain chemical studies, at least not in any significant way. The time may come that doctors may be able to screen for say, any of a few hundred different factors, and tailor treatment based on the results.

In a less extreme sense, maybe. Couldn't you imagine classrooms seperated in to visual learners, hands-on learners, auditory learners, etc?

Okay, well many. I didn't mean "ALL" but I guess I should have been more specific.

I'm sure it would to- and i bet it would make a huge difference in treatment for mental issues, the problem being that learning styles are often easier to identify than recovery/change styles.
