Are you worried about dating over the Internet? Then keep reading!

The following safety precautions should be taken into consideration, even if you're meeting other dating singles:

  • Don't give out personal information, including your last name, home/work addresses, phone numbers, bank account data, etc.
  • Be cautious. On the Internet people can pretend to be someone else. It's not easy to determine if someone is being honest, because you have no visual, vocal, or body language to analyze. Don't be afraid to ask for proof of important matters such as job status, educational degrees, etc.
  • Ask for references if you are suspicious. You are entitled to verify that the person is who they say they are. If you telephone one of their references, use a pay phone to avoid problems with caller ID.
  • Talk with the person on the phone before meeting in the real life. You can learn a lot about someone's personality by hearing their voice and how they talk and they think if you ask the right questions. If the person is trying to control you before you meet be careful because they won't change later.
  • Never meet a person alone. Go to a public place by yourself or bring a friend. Never meet at home or the others persons place.
  • Watch for signs of anger, frustration, or manipulation while getting to know them over the Internet.
