ThumbingMyWay
I heard this story from Joel Olsteen (pastor for Lakewood Church). He has some air time late at night on one of the Christian cable channels. Very good speaker and talks from the heart…I wish everyone could here his word….very moving and motivating. anyway, he told this story...he told it better than me...but the point is there. There was a very well to do professor at a college. He was in a very loving marriage, had children and grandkids. he was very involved with his kids and family was a priority in his life. Over the years, he gained much wealth and happiness in his life with his beloved wife. He was an older gentleman and was the leader of the college professor board, had the world at his feet. Well, one day his wife was diagnosed with alztimer disease. He took care of her over the years in his home. Taking off when needed and helping her out the best he could. Well, some more time passed and his wife became very sick. She didn’t even recognize him anymore. His own wife with her disease did not know who he was anymore. Now with all his money, he could have just put her in nursing home to concentrate on his work. but his faith and commitment said that she should be in her home. So one day, he was at a board meeting with the college. He stated that he was resigning his position and was going to stay home full time with his wife. The board members balked and tried to talk him out of it. Saying things like, she is so sick she doesn’t even know you anymore, why do you even care? He told them, “50 years ago I made a commitment to this woman. She may not know who I am anymore, BUT I KNOW WHO SHE IS” simply beautiful. I wish more people were like this man. .
