amaysngrace
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd This reminds me of my first love, but it's bittersweet to me. I hear this song and smile, even though the memories pour into my brain. My exH use to listen to country. I'm lucky because most of the songs that remind me of him were country. It was easy for me to turn off that music.
alphamale
This reminds me of my first love, but it's bittersweet to me. I hear this song and smile, even though the memories pour into my brain. My best friend ever, Steve, died when we were both 21. We were huge Floyd fans and used to get stoned listening to their music. Wish You Were Here was his favourite album by them, well that and The Wall. I miss him a lot
allina
No songs make me cry because of their romantic significance but the song I'll be missing you always gets to me, it's about death and it came out the day a friend of mine was killed back in 7th grade, it became sort of our song for him. It doesn't make me cry but I always connect it back to him and that day.
amaysngrace
I agree about the songs being reminders of loved ones who've died, rather than exBFs or GFs, wives or husbands. The only songs that can make me cry are those that are tied into death as well. I have too many to name that remind me of my sister.

Blackfrost
hmm.....blackfrost doesn't cry too often anymore (i think my tear ducts have dried up), usually it only happens when I watch a really heavy movie, and I get caught up in the characters lives. But these songs definitely make me feel melancholy or sometimes quite sad: "Fade into you" Mazzy Star - makes me miss old girlfriends "Beautiful Child" Fleetwood Mac - just the most heart wrenching tune I've ever heard Stevie Nicks sing. It's on the "Tusk" album. This just makes me sad. "Windmills" Toad The Wet Sprocket - reminds me of my first wife, when we were young. "Summer Breeze" Seals and Croft - reminds me of when I would ride in the car with my mom, running errands. I was probably around the age of 5 at that time. "Wishing you were here" Chicago - Reminds me of my Dad from around the same period as the song above. and here's a horrible song to have a memory attached to "Toy Soldier" Martika. It was playing on the radio when I was racing my best friend to the hospital, 15 years ago, for a drug overdose of which he died from. The entire soundtrack album for the movie "The Insider" - Lisa Gerard has a voice that is so beautiful yet sad. Reminds me of another good friend I no longer see anymore

dr strangelove
I reccomend that anyone listens to the songs off this list. Perhaps the list is somewhat surpirsing coming from me. Each one has a memory for me Nick Cave-Into my arms : watching nick cave videos with my friend Joanna. Both have troubles with our lovelife. She has passed out beside me, and this song comes on. I realize it says what I wish to say to my ex. I end up sending it to her she calls me a few times late at night but I dont answer... wasted effort? Duran duran-someone else not me. : I decided to listen to pop trash one day. Im struck by how beautiful this song is. Incidently as usual im having girl troubles, havent met the ex yet. I end up listening to this song over and over again. On a brighter note, one day the ex phones me and im listening to this song. She insists I put the phone to the speaker. A beautiful moment in time is shared. Just one of many with her. Guns and roses- November Rain : Ive just freshly broken up with my ex. My friend picks me up and we drive around. Some times he takes me for a drive to chat or to help clear my head. He has made a mix cd and this song comes on. And I think it starts to rain. When I hear the words I cant help but think of my ex. I end up making a copy of the cd. THE DAMNED - Eloise : I first saw the video on muchmusic early one day. Dave vanian sings in a way that you can imagine him outside his lovers window with the band. Reminds me of all the times I had to win back someone... MARILYN MANSON - (s)AINT : Listen to the lyrics. Bang your head and give the finger to your ex. A good reminder thats it their loss. Even if you have to crawl back to them to make them realize.. YOSHIKI - black diamond : Not really a break up or make up song. More of something you might put on when your trying to seduce someone. The song is by DETROIT rod gods KISS the interuptation is so different and so beautiful and so intense. EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL - Album walking wounded tracks Wrong/ single : My ex found this cd in my shop. I seem to remember selling it to her. Which makes me wonder why its sitting here. I ended up listening to it one day over and over again, on one the days post break-up. The lyrics of these songs made me question trying to go after her or make me wonder what she was thinking. The whole album seems to be inspired by being in love, losing love, wanting that love back. GAL COSTA - negro amor : I have no idea what she is singing. But from the way she sings it I can guess. One of the more emotional tracks on Caras&bocas. I ended up with this cd in an effort to expand my horizons.. It was so beautiful that I made a copy and left in my exes mailbox while were still together. At first thought I left her a mail bomb, I dont think she expected something so beautiful. The cd came with some doodles. I listen to this cd it totally reminds me of her for obvious reasons. Even after we broke up she still had this cd.
Storyrider
Alpha, I agree with you about "Wish You Were Here" and would add "Shine on You Crazy Diamond". Even though I did not lose a friend like you did, just thinking about the whole Sid Barrett story gives me chills with these songs. Other sad songs: -Dire Straits "Romeo and Juliet"--Reminds me of first boyfriend -Kate Bush "Wuthering Heights"--Haunting and romantic -David Bowie "Kooks" or anything from his Hunky Dory Album -Bob Dylan "Shelter from the Storm" and "Tangled up in Blue" and much of his Blood on the Tracks album Happy Songs: -Violent Femmes "Blister in the Sun" -REM "End of the World as We Know It" -Led Zepellin "Ramble On" (bittersweet but happy) -Lennard Skynard "Sweet Home Alabama" I would never own this last one, but always makes me exuburant when it comes on the radio. Something about the guitar riff.
