Sameness attracts?

Recommended Posts

It hit me like a ton of bricks today, why a lot of women I come across dont interest me. In my case i realized I'm attracted to someone similar to me almost a mirror image. looking back into the past and up till now, i noticed the majority of women i feel most attracted to are of similar physique/looks to me. In a strange twisted way I can already tell before-hand we have similar personalities, getting to know them confirms it.

This isnt limited to me, as I've seen and know a lot of people who are in relationships with people within the same physical levels (height/weight/looks) as they are.

What do you guys think?

The best relationships are usually formed when the 2 people are on the same level ( personality, interests, looks ).

Your analogy is not new.

I've seen various articles and studies indicating that people often are attracted to those who resemble them physically. I suppose it's that familiarity thing that makes people feel comfortable. Also, a person's build and the way they dress can conjure up pictures of a particular lifestyle...so if you enjoy sporty things, then seeing someone who looks quite athletic will make you feel that you're more liable to share similar interests than you might with someone who's dressed like a lounge lizard. Not saying it's right or wrong, but I think those are just some of the factors that come into play when forming initial impressions.

I totally agree. I find myself most attacted to my 'mirror' image also. I am constantly into dudes who share the same colouring (ie. hair, eyes...) as I do. I cannot explain it exactly, but I think part of it is I like to see myself through other's eyes...

... though sometimes, I can go for the opposite, but mostly it always falls back on that 'mirror' image.

I'm yet to meet a pink elephant. That will be a day to remember. Or, more accurately, a night to remember.:bunny:

To each their own i guess, there have been a few rare occurences where you see a completely opposite couple together. beauty and the beast...that term is stretched a little far, but you get the picture.

ya, i've read a few of those articles in the past too. I found it hard to believe then, but the truth speaks now..for me anyway.

I remember clearly one article that struck a chord...one reason people are attracted to those who are on the same physical levels as they are is because if one chooses a mate too far from his/her spectrum, it's feared the offspring may present undesired variables within the genes (aka abnormalities). And for that reason when selecting a mate, they want the one closest matching their physical level to maintain a controlled (secure) passing of their genes.

Don't two big noses in make an even bigger nose out??

See, I'm blonde and green eyed and am repelled by blonde guys. I'm most attracted to dark hair and eyes, olive skin, but similar personality to mine.

Thats because the media wants to destroy the white race

This might be the case with you, but not with myself. The girl I am dating wouldn't look like my type, but I'm falling for her personality, not looks.

That doesn't apply to those who do not want kids.

I am not interested in passing off my genes. I've done that already... no more. Now I'm in it for fun. :lmao:

Most people have a fondness for symmetry. So, in my view, it’s hardly surprising there are more people together who share similar attributes than those who are vastly dissimilar.

Of course, there are always exceptions, but I’m only referring to the case in general.

hmm I have never dated anyone that resembled me. For me personally opposites attract.

Do you mean opposites in terms of personality characteristics or physical attributes?
