Nur
Has anyone here had it done? I am thinking about getting my bellybutton pierced, but want to know two questions 1.) Does it heal within a reasonable basis, or is it going to keep getting infected/irritated and never fully heal? (Also, how long does healing take, for those of you who have successfully healed it?) 2.) Does it look stupid when you take it out for a while?

I just had mine done 3 weeks ago, I thought they would pierce it like when your ear is pierced with a gun and instead they first stretched my skin and use a long needle. That HURT! It never healed only because I forgot that I get an infection if I wear anything other than gold so now I will have to take it off.
BARBGURL
I had it done. It is very sexy, but a nuisance. I like my dangle rings and unless you wear jeans so low that you contribute to America's "crack" problem - it gets bumped and knocked. Personally, I am also a belly sleeper and it can be uncomfortable. Again, it looks really hot though!!! Especially if you have firm abs and a nice tan - drives men crazy!! As far as healing - everybody is different. There are some who respond well and heal fine and then there are those who simply never completely heal. ( I had this discussion with a doctor friend ) That's not to say it will look bad, but just may always be a little uncomfortable. If you have it done and then decide to take it out and let it close - you will have a visible scar - small or not. BTW: Body Candy Jewelry on-line is a fun place to buy belly jewelry. yousaveme
I had mine done..Yes with a long needle...Mine actually never healed right and fell out. I found out I was allergic to the metal..I should have gotten the gold. And then I would have been fine. I have a scar on my belly button now. And it was a pain when wearing certain clothing...But that might have been from it not healing right.

gonetildecember
i've had mine done around 5 years ago, and I still have it in. I love it. It took about 3 months or so for mine to completely heal i would say.. for me within about 2 week the soreness was gone, except for when i hit it or when i caught on something (OW) You usually have to wait about 8 weeks until you change it.. i took it out this summer for about 4 months and actually put it back in yesterday.. its wasn't completely closed.. the whole had just gotten a bit smaller, but i did it, with limited difficulty. but overall a great experience.. and it looks cute lol
Author Nur
I still want it, but my mom and dad are both very much against it. Even though I am nearly 20, I still don't want to do anything that will make my mom "cry." Also, my family goes out on the boat together, and I will not be allowed to show it in front of them because it grosses them out. My sister also thinks they are gross and trashy. I like them a lot, but I don't want to send the wrong image to people. I am thinking to perhaps get a clip-on belly ring and/or a belly chain. Those look cute too without the piercing. amaysngrace
I did mine myself. I had it for twelve years and at the time it was hard to find places that did them. My friend from Trinidad helped show me how. I only have it in a little piece of my skin, I sort of whimped out but I'm glad really cause I don't have this big honkin hole like the newer versions. Anyway, two words: Campo Phenique, or however you spell it. It wards off infection. Just keep pouring it in. You can get it at the drugstore, if they still make it.
allina
I got mine done when I was 14 (holy crap almost 10 years ago!) It didn't hurt and mine healed well and quickly. What I did was put a cup of warm salt water on it and it worked wonders. Just be careful I've seen so many nasty, infected ones.
ShoeGirl
I got mine done on my 18th birthday (2.5 years ago), they did it with a long hollow needle. It didn't hurt too bad (but I have a fairly high pain tolerance), after 2 weeks or so I hardly noticed any discomfort at all, it took 2-3 months to heal completely. The place I went told me to use the warm salt water 2x a day, like other people mentioned, but to also clean it at least once a day with the original dial soap, that stung a little at the beginning but it was worth it, it has never gotten infected. I also kept a little neosporin on it the first few weeks to help prevent any infection. Some people do react to the metal in the barbell, even if you have had your ears pierced you could react to it in your stomach, if you get it done I would suggest paying extra for the gold barbell so that you have less chance of your body rejecting it and leaving a bigger scar. I haven't taken it out for more than a few days but when I do I have a little hole, nothing that is really noticeable unless you are looking right at my bellybutton. My parents didn't want me to get mine pierced either but I just told them that I am 18 and I can take care of myself and that it was my body. After that discussion they didn't say much more about it... now my mom thinks it is cute and wants to know why I don't show it off more. If you google "navel piercing" you will get a ton of information, the risks and how to clean it, etc.
longlegzs80
I have my navel pierced. And I like it alot. I never take out my ring unless I change it with something else. First off, at the piercing place, they tell you what to do to properly take care of it where it heals and won't get infected. Your best bet is to talk with them. I got my piercing along time ago and forgot how to take care of it. But I haven't had problems with it. good luck and go get it done.
