silentalways
in different ways at different times. for example: when i was in love with someone, i would listen to the Tragically Hip song Ahead By A Century and it was a connection to that vibe i was feeling [First we'd climb a tree and maybe then we'd talk Or sit silently and listen to our thoughts With illusions of someday casting a golden light No dress rehearsal, this is our life That's when the hornet stung me and I had a feverish dream With revenge and doubt tonight we smoke them out You are ahead by a century Stare in the morning shroud and then the day began I tilted your cloud, you tilted my hand Rain falls in real time and rain fell through the night No dress rehearsal, this is our life That's when the hornet stung me and I had a serious dream With revenge and doubt tonight, we smoked them out You are ahead by a century But this is our life and disappointing you getting me down] then when i need to get over that love, i would listen to the Tragically Hip song Dumping The Body and it was a connection to my ability to let go and gave me the vibe i needed. [Morning broke out the backside of a truck-stop the end of a line a real, rainbow-likeing, luck stop where you could say I became chronologically "****ed-up". Put ten bucks in just to get the tank topped off. Then, I found a place it's dark and it's rotted. It's a cool, sweet kinda-place where the copters won't spot it and I destroyed the map, I even thought I forgot it, however, every-day I'm dumping the body. It'd be better for us if you don't understand. It'd be better for me if you don't understand They don't know how old I am, they found armour in my belly from the 16th century, conquistador, I think. They don't know how old I am, they found armour in my belly. Passion out of machine-revving tension, lashing out at machiine-revving tension, brushing by the machine-revving tension.] does this happen to anyone else?
TigerCub
I think most people relate to songs at one time or another. I know that songs influence my mood. When I'm listening to something upbeat in my apartment, I always find myself singing along and just dancing without realizing it and it just makes me feel great. When I was going through issues with my now ex. I would listen to all these sad songs, like Mariah Carey's "I don't wanna cry" or Matchbox20's "Hang" and stuff like that, and it's just seems like the thing to listen to because I can relate to the emotion being delivered in those songs. Right now, I've rediscovered one of the best/most beautiful songs in the world: "One" by U2. and I just love listening to it because somewhere between the lyrics and what I've been going through in my personal life, there is some kind of connection. Music is such a strong force as far as relating to certain events if you're going through them.
georgejungle
I Live for Music, It has TOTALLY helped me get thru a lot of rough times. I've never turned to alcohol or drugs, it's always been music for me, when times have been low. Elliott Smith (god rest his soul) really helped me get thru some sad times. His music is so somber, beautiful, yet tragic. All acoustic, soft voice and a lot of heartache.

I can't say that I've ever turned to alcohol or drugs, but being on both have gotten me into some bad times. I kind of feel like music has always been there to guide me and tell me that everything will be ok. It's helped me make better choices. I'm thankful for that and I realize it more and more these days.
My Fair Katie
In, I guess 2000, I broke up with some guy. The week after I would occassionally sing this short chorus (to the tune of Brick by Ben Folds Five): "He's a d**k and I'll drown him slowly, Off the coast won't find his body no where." Yes, I know "no where" is incorrect english, but it fit the rhyme better. I'm happy to report I did not drown him. My song with my husband is "All I Want is You" (U2). We danced to it at our wedding. It always brings a smile to my face. Oh, and I can't listen to Portishead without wanting to get busy.

Thank you for ruining this song for me now... although I'm not entirely sure who I envision as the d**k. Poor d**k. I hope he wasn't concurrently singing the unadulterated Song for the Dumped? (I assume he wasn't nearly as creative.) http://www.benfoldsfive.com/lyrics/whatever_04.html Ben Folds rocks. I love all the brooding lyrics and piano angst.
shoesies05
Music is amazing in that it can make so many people feel emotion. I love the songs that i can relate to, when im feeling sad i would put on a song about feeling good about myself, being strong, etc. Music i think has a huge effect on all of us. If people didnt feel anything from music, do you think it would be such a huge part of our lives?
