SadBabyGirl
Hey Guys. Im having a hard time today. See, I chose a major in college, Social Psychology because social psychology is what I love, I LOVE studying psychology. But the problem is, I dont know what I am going to do with it. I dont plan on being a psychologist. I dont want to work in a hospital.. or be a counselor..and my friends say (because I want to live in los angeles) that my degree wont get me ANYWHERE and that I will probably end up working at Target or flipping burgers. Or working 7 Jobs just to pay rent to live there. I dont know what to do with this degree now... I dont even know what to apply it to when I look for work on websites like Monster.com, Etc. I may go for my Masters but I have no idea what I should aim for like masters of education? journalism? Does anybody have any ideas, or suggestions? Should I just talk to my career counselor at my University? I dont want to feel like Im studying this for nothing I just want a job that will stabilize me and make me become independant so I can live where I always dreamed of and say I did it... and Im so afraid now!!! westernxer
Come to Los Angeles and be a stripper... plenty of fast money in that profession. You can even do it part time to pay for your Master's.
Author SadBabyGirl
Nah, the eye surgeons and eye doctors would be suddenly swamped with patients after they view my naked body and low and behold get blinded by my Assets. Funny Joke though, LA seems to be a bit notorious for some of those jobs!! But Im trying to be serious I lived there for a while and worked part time while getting my associates degree but I couldnt afford it and now I want to go back. Im originally Californian btw, born and raised... and cant even live in my own state. I want to make sure that after i started this darn degree that it will get me, somewhere.. at least. I dont plan on being a psychologist. I dont want to work in a hospital.. or be a counselor.. Talk to a career counselor, preferably a good one if you can find a good one. Also, if you're lucky enough to have any good mentors, try asking them as well. and my friends say (because I want to live in los angeles) that my degree wont get me ANYWHERE and that I will probably end up working at Target or flipping burgers. This is just plain uncalled for on the part of your friends. Granted, I've known people who ended up having to utilize their masters' degree in such grunt work for a while back when the economy tanked, but to assume that burger flipping is necessarily a career track for an educated person is pretty rude in my opinion. Or working 7 Jobs just to pay rent to live there. This might be the case where you come from. I can't verify anything. Best of luck.
che_jesse
You knew going into it that you cant do anything with a BA in psych, you chose it anyway... dunno what to tell you... go to grad school I guess, or go flip burgers, you could probably manage the Macdonald's because its a college degree. Guest
Well, how about research then? Like research of the brain, or working in a dream lab or something. The world is your oyster
Guest
I would talk to a career counselor I also have my undergraduate degree in Psych If you like the field and want to stay in it then that's great but you could always use your BA in other areas These days I know ALOT of people who major in one thing and work in a total different area when they go out in the real world and besided with a BA in psych you don't make anything it's a low paying profession unless you go to grad school, you'll be broke
