10 pounds is "A LOT of weight"?

Recommended Posts

So, I lost 10 pounds, and my relatives came over afterwards and started saying how I lost "A LOT of weight. Wow, A LOT" when they saw me. And my mom was like "You're soo skinny now" and when I had those 10 pounds she commented on how I was really chubby. What the ****? Is 10 pounds really the difference between really chubby and really skinny? Keep in mind that it was accidental weight loss and I didn't exactly work out, just ate less due to depression, so I lost some muscle mass too, which takes up less space.

I was 17 and 5'3", which is not that short for a female.

If you're not particularly heavy to begin with, 10 pounds can make a noticeable difference. If you were sick, they might also be reacting to your post-depression appearance...we tend to look wan and pale and "weak" which leads to words like "too skinny" when they mean "still look ill".

Hey GoldPenny,

That kind of happend to me. I was a big when I was younger and I lost a lot of weight. But I don't look un healthy or anything but to this day they still say im too skinny, and say "are you eating"?? etc... Maybe they just want to make sure you don;t loose more?

I was at 138 and same height...when I started getting the "chubby" comment from my Mom and my relatives. Then, I got to 128 WHICH IS STILL over my ideal weight for my height and frame (small bone structure). Oh, and the depression wasn't apparent because I, like some others who suffer from depression, would take casual care of my appearance and act normal to mask my depression.

10 lbs is significant, especially if you are a small person. You lost 8% of your body weight. That's pretty good. I recently gained 10 lbs  and I can tell a noticable difference. So can my jeans. I'm working on it, but to me 10 lbs feel like A LOT.

I lost about 12 lbs. over the summer (sadness...not eating as much...not cooking for stupid ex...etc.) and it caught up with me. My weight loss wasn't intentional either, but yes, others did notice.

ANYWAY - I'm about 5'4 and was never really heavy to begin with, just more soft and curvy before. So I think the other posters are right - if you aren't heavy, weight loss is easier to notice.

The difference between 128 and 118 on me was a huge difference, especially being 5'4".

No offense, but having that kind of attitude will not help at all. That is how it works around here. Some threads will get lots of responses and some will not. I haven't read any of your threads but if you want a better chance for your threads to be read, don't write a novel.

10 pounds can make a pretty big difference, but if you feel good about your current size it's probably okay. I once lost a bit more weight and had many people comment that it was too much, but I felt GREAT about the loss. I have since gained 20 pounds and am feeling less confident about my appearance, but I recognize that even at my current weight I am still within the normal healthy range.

I looked up one of your threads and it had 71 responses. That's pretty high on the LS threshold. They don't always go to page 2, and usually page 1 will give enough advice to give you what you need. Now I didn't READ that thread, so I assume that you didn't contribute half of the posts yourself.

At any rate, this is a good place to find friends and very good advice. Take us or leave us:)

Enough about your thread..when you make a public post you should expect to get some weird responses...just normal.

Anyways about your 10 pound loss, that's good but make sure you're doing it the healthy way and not eating isn't the healthy way to go about.

If you haven't read any of my previous posts when I started back to working out and eating right I weighed in at 295 and that was in mid september. Btw I'm 6'4. Well I couldn't see the first 10 pounds loss, clothes still fit the same way but I could start seing it at 15 pounds. I was in size 40 pants and probably should have been 42. Well I'm currently at 242 and in size 38 and I can take my pants off w/out undoing the button, I close to being back in 36's again.

Poeple tell me that I don't even look like the same person.

If you're going to lose weight, make sure you're doing it the healthy way.

What about the people that did take the time out of there day to even reply to your probs?? Try being some of the ones who never get any reply. And then you can actualy have something to B*tch about. Who made you god to decide whats serious or important or whos post derserves more responses? GoldPenny dont listen to this person your post is just as inportant as any one elses. I agree that if your not realy over weight to beguin with then yea 10 pounds can make a differance eather way. You should def get some treatment for your depreshion tho if you havent already..

No. But you are better off getting medical advice from a registered mediacl professional, as it can be conflicting on here.

I noticed that one of your threads was about wanting a bigger butt and hips. How is that any different from this one?

That was important to you, and THIS thread is important to Goldpenny.

IMO, your question was "stupider" than hers, but they are both worthy of being answered.

The difference between 128 and 118 on me was a huge difference, especially being 5'4".

I had the same exact weight loss at 18, and people asked me if I was undergoing chemo!! 128 pounds is not "sickly" at 5'4''!!

I lost 15lbs in the past seven months, just cutting my food intake...now I weigh 130 but can't seem to get below...I'm 5'5" and people do notice the weight that you lose!

Your clothes are most likely loose as well....

my weight is not over for my height but I'm used to weighing 115-120...plus I'm 44......had 2 children & lost all my weight but that snacking catches up with you as you age & don't exercise....plus portions today are way over what we need for nutritional value....I usually cut my plate in 1/2 before I eat when I'm at a restaurant....that helps...

I'm planning on joining my gym 2 blocks away to see if I can get the last 15lbs off of me...I need the exercise and working out at home, I, personally find boring....some people need to get out of the house in order to exercise...there's more to look at, as my friend this morning said to me & the use of the different machines is stimulating.

Slim fast for breakfast & lunch, along with a normal dinner should also help....! I'm just tired of the inches I can pinch!
