Guest
If a man was in love with his female best friend, wouldn't he eventually just tell her? Or at least make a move on her? Or is he more likely to hold back for respect or rejection reasons?
lovebug76
well my best friend eventually told me how he felt about me right before he left town. which was no good cause it left me with all these things in my head left unanswered. he being a guy never would reply to anything i asked him, and it made things weird when he did come home. after about 8 months things are back to normal as friends with us, but i havent seen him since this summer so i dont know how things really are in person with us. i almost wish he never would have said anything. cause i did/do have feelings for him and cant seem to do anything about it. but i think most guys wont make a move for fear of rejection, and as much as i may wish i didnt know sometimes, i was super happy to hear the words out of his mouth. Curmudgeon
Held back mostly for respect. She was my best female friend for five years. I was married for the first three of them. I finally asked her out two years after my divorce (which she helped see me through as a friend and nothing more). Two weeks later I "confessed" and we became engaged. Six weeks later we married. That was 10 years ago and we're still best friends and going strong.
norajane
A lot of them won't say anything. They can use a lot of excuses, but most of them don't have the nerve to say anything in case you don't feel the same way.
Curmudgeon
Wusses! Rejection is not pleasant but at least then it's over and you can stop wasting your time on someone who doesn't want to be with you.

Or is he more likely to hold back for respect or rejection reasons? I think that he would more than likely hold back out of fear of losing his bestfriend. If he wasn't completly certain that she felt the same way, then he would be afraid of losing his best friend for something more.

He would hold back for those and many more reasons unless he's really into her and truly believes they are made for each other
coaster1026
He would hold back for those and many more reasons unless he's really into her and truly believes they are made for each other So in other words, he isn't into me enough to do anything about it, just enough to be scared of rejection? What I made a first move in this case? Would it make him get more "into me"?

Why pass up a chance to date someone you care for? Just because he might be a coward, doesn't mean you have to!
