PWSX3
I know for most people managing your money comes natural or you have been doing it for so long it's pretty easy, but my separated wife was the one that always did it so now I'm on my own for 2007 or at least the start of it. I don't want to live paycheck to paycheck and my biggest thing to overcome is spend my money on paying off a bill instead of going and buying something I don't really need. I have a file cabinet next to my computer so I have a place for all the paperwork. I've tried to make a budget, but kind of stalled out so I need to get back at it again. I use Quickens for my checking and I know you can do a budget with that, but again I haven't learned how. I do pay my bills on line because I don't like writing checks. If anyone has some good pointers or little quick hints I would "LOVE" to hear them. Gunny has given me a few pointers and a place to start, THANKS BUDDY!!!
monit0r
Hi pwsx3, I'm learning to manage my money better this year too. One thing that I have learnt is from a book called "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki. I make a financial statement of my life and list all my income/outgoing assets and liabilities. that way, i can keep track of my financials and control my purse strings. longlegzs80
This is something I would like to do more of and you seem to have a better handle on it then me. I would say make a budget, all your bills a month, food, leisure/entertainment etc. Find areas in your life where you spend money that you don't really have. Maybe your a cigarrete smoker, or drinker, coffee drinker, gambler etc. Cut back on things that you spend your money on like those bad habits and once you pay your monthly bills, find a system as far as your entertainment, what you can't live without kinds of things, you will be better off. Hell, I should take my own advice, but great topic and wish you the best of luck. Take care and hope this helps.

In the summer I like to 4-wheel so that takes gas money and food but with it being winter we don't do that. So far in the last two months I cut my cable back because I don't watch that much TV anymore and I cut back what I could on another bill. I need to do a better job of planning my trip to the store so I don't have to spend so much on gas since it's like 14 miles round trip to the store, but they are building a new Wal-Mart just down the street from my work so that will help out a LOT! I started a budget but I need to tweek it just a little so I make sure and keep track of all my money for a month of so. I am also trying to eat more healthy so of coarse the healthy food costs more and I drink more juices and water. I quit drinking pop over a year ago so I guess you can see I'm just doing an all around overhauling of myself. Me and my son try and cook new things at home and sometimes they turn out and sometimes they don't but at least we tried. Because of having to be careful on my money I don't go out to eat as much so that means no McDonalds or Taco Bell. My folks took me and my son out last month and I had a fast food hamburger and it felt like I had eaten a brick so I don't miss those hamburgers at all now after that. I got my file cabinet all cleaned of 2006 paperwork and I made a few new files that I feel I needed to add so now when I get mail it will either go into the file cabinet or into the trash. I think I have a good start so we will see what happens, hopefully I can keep on top of it and I'll know pretty quick where I stand.
