longlegzs80
Sorry for the mispelling, but I am looking to lower my bad cholesteral and my doctor says I need to do 30 min of excersize a day and to watch what I eat. So, where do I start? Sounds so stupid to even ask, but when your not used to cooking for yourself and always on the go, and the only form of exercise is your place of work because your constantly moving for 8 to 10 hours a day, I just don't know what to do. What foods should I eat? What websites would you recommend on learning more about healthy eatting? I been contemplating on joining a gym, but the motivation just isn't there, so what kinds of excersize could I do to help lower bad cholesteral? Suggestions are very much appreciated. Thank you. Zaira
Half hour walk a day is good exercise, and gives you time to yourself... time to think. Kill two birds with one stone. As for your diet, eat less high fat food.... Dietary Fat There are two major types of dietary fat - saturated and unsaturated. Unsaturated fats are further classified as either polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fats. Together, saturated and unsaturated fats equal total fat. All foods containing fat contain a mixture of these fats. Reduce Total Fat Intake One of the goals in your blood cholesterol-lowering diet is to eat less total fat, because this is an effective way to eat less saturated fat. Because fat is the richest source of calories, this will also help reduce the number of calories you eat every day. If you are overweight, weight loss is another important step in lowering blood cholesterol levels (as discussed later in this brochure). If you are not overweight, be sure to replace the fat calories by eating more food high in complex carbohydrates. Remember: When you decrease the amount of total fat you eat, you are likely to reduce the saturated fat and calories in your diet. Which Foods Are High In Cholesterol? Foods that are high in cholesterol include some of these animal products: Liver Egg Yolks Butter Prawns Sardines Heavy Cream Veal Pork Ribs Crab Low Cholesterol Diet To keep your cholesterol low, you should eat less than 300mg per day. Foods that will help lower your cholesterol include: Apples Garlic Onions Beans and Legumes Unsaturated Fats Wholegrain Cereals Soybean Products This site also has some good recipes: http://www.calorieking.com.au/recipes/
Porn_Guy
try some of the cholesterol lowering meds such as Zetia or Vytorin. They are superb and have few side effects. Even if you take a half-dose you can reduce your bad chol by 20 or 30%. Talk with your doctor.
amaysngrace
Eating omega 3s helps too. I eat flax seed as a good source of omega 3 fatty acid. I put it into a pack of oatmeal. Heating it in oatmeal makes it less gritty. It's pretty good. It has a nutty taste. I buy the gold bag at GNC, the ground seeds. I keep it in an airtight container in my refrigerator. I use 2 Tbs. to one pack of oatmeal.
Art_Critic
Dove Dark Chocolate http://www.prevention.com/article/0,5778,s1-3-71-56-2288-1,00.html They found that only the Dove Dark had heart-healthy benefits: It reduced LDL oxidation and boosted antioxidant levels and HDL concentrations in the blood. Who would've thunk it ???

This article is terribly old, but - I believe - cuts to the heart of the matter. Belinda Linden, Head of Medical Information at the BHF, said: "Advising people to eat chocolate regularly for their hearts' sake is a reckless message that people should ignore.... "Yes, chocolate contains flavonoids. However, most chocolate bars contain high levels of saturated fats and sugar that contribute to high cholesterol levels, obesity and coronary heart disease.http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/sci_tech/2001/glasgow_2001/1521982.stm
amaysngrace
that krap is for birds and rabbits man.... Now why do you have to say that? I'm into holistic healing as opposed to just popping a pill. And it has added benefits too. Shiny, healthy hair and nails.

amaysngrace
No. That's just you. No it's true. It does something good for hair nails and skin. I read that once before. I think because it's high in fat or something. Oh yeah it is a fat.
magichands
Conjecture... but just another reason not to blindly pop pills to "solve" a problem. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6255717.stm

amaysngrace
i wonder how "holistic healing" works on cancer and schizophrenia. You go for preventative medicine. I know you would disagree seeing how your father is an MD but didn't he recently have a stroke? Perhaps he should encourage you to eat healthier. Rather than just write a script later on once the damage is already done. That seems rather dumb to me. No offense.
