Functional
How does one not relapse? I know with addiction it happens, and with meth the chance of relapsing is almost inevitable. What are some things that will prevent or aid to this occurance?
magichands
Great question. I guess it's down to you, and your willpower. An "internal" struggle, of epic proportions. I hope you don't win. Slapping yourself may help, or it might just piss you off more.
Toyota23
Wazzup. All I can tell you is how I stopped. I was heavily into Meth. What ended up happening was family members helped me get into Detox. So, that was the first big step. At this point in my mind i thought i was insane i thought i was telepathic, i couldn't read, thought commericals where all about me etc.. So after detox went to a rehab place for 30 days, working on a farm. This really humbled me which is what i needed. After that I did it again, but, i realized that the drug was no longer doing what it did when i was taking it in the beginning. It was just making me paranoid. So I stopped again and went to support groups every night (primarily to look at the girls). I inevitably got strong urges maybe 2-3 times a week for a few months but i just kept telling myself THERE IS NO REASON TO TAKE THE DRUG. It will do nothing for me. I wouldn't even let my mind think about reasons why i should. So that is how i basically stopped. I also don't drink or do any other drugs which may lower my inhibitions and go back. I have been clean for ~ 4 years. So, it maybe that i was somewhat lucky when the drug stopped working, which made my decision to stay sober easier. O yea, I had to lose the friends i ran with. Sorry for long post i tried to keep you out of it as everyone is different and no one thing works. Take Care.
aikim
I've been battling with using and stopping for almost 2 yrs now and for me, I started to realize that it didn't do anything for me anymore. It just made me feel ****ty and depressed. And then after a while I forget about how bad I'll feel and convince myself that I'll just do it once for fun. But of course you don't do it just once when you do it again. I guess it's just always a battle. You can never just do it once for fun because you're going to end up wanting to keep doing it. So I guess you just have to have self control and just not give in...even if you think it's just going to be that one time because it won't. Weighing the pros and cons also helps
extra-ordinary_guy
I know with addiction it happens, and with meth the chance of relapsing is almost inevitable. It's inevitable if you keep thinking like this. Try and get some support. You won't relapse. Just don't pick up.
Ladywithafan
My motto has always been this, if I don't start, I don't have to stop....
RCliff
Almost every addict (no matter the drug) relapses at least once, as he/she believes he/she can use "normally' if only they can get under control. You can google relapse prevention, or go to about.com, and there are dozens of techniques to assist with relapse prevention. Stopping a drug is easy, staying stopped is what is hard. To pharaphrase the old Mark Twain quote about stopping smoking, "It is easy to quit smoking, I have done it a hundred times." People have to not only give up the drug, they have to give up their friends who still use, they have to give up the places they used to go to, and they have to give up everything that was associated with the drug. 12 step programs, 90 meetings in 90 days is the golden rule.......
