November-Rain
I recently went back to school for a nursing degree. Scary! I had not taken any college courses since the late 80's. Adjusting to school has been a challenge for me. I'm curious to know if any of you have returned to school later in age and what were the reasons for it? My reason for going back to school is to accomplish a life long dream to become a neonatal nurse. I am now in a position in which it is financially feasible. My children are now old enough to where supervision is not required as much. The best part of it all is that my husband supports it, except when it's time for finals, he tends to feel a bit neglected. C'est la vie!

Porn_Guy
I think you should get a degree in something more substantial and marketable than massage therapy. There are tons of people walking around with that degree and theyre flipping burgers at BKs or assembling CrunchWrap supremes at Taco Bell. Why not accounting, computers or nursing or something we really need in the US?
burning 4 revenge
There are tons of people walking around with that degree and theyre flipping burgers at BKs or assembling CrunchWrap supremes at Taco Bell. I thought most of them end up working in "massage" parlors.

First class has me printing 200+ papers to review and quiz on Friday. Hard adjustment-GOD-my professor told us all to go home and say 'goodbye' to our friends and family. My reasons are similar to yours, but hope to specialize in the pediatric/ob-gyn unit. Best of luck to all of us!
suegail
laRubiaBonita, Congratulations on taking the step of getting back to school. I would think there are many opportunities for massage therapists...one of the doctors I know had one coming to her office to see several of her patients, and I'm sure health clubs hire as well, or if you wish I'm sure you could go out on your own and do very well. November Rain: Nursing is a great choice. It's the field I'm in. I work in med-surg and love it. I returned to school to enter nursing after having been out of school for a number of years. I remember considering social work, but decided on nursing and I feel it was exactly the right choice. There are frustrations and it can be very hard at times, due to staffing issues and too many other things to name, but for myself, 99% of the time, it's not the patient causing me the frustration and in fact they usually make it worth it all - patient care is the place for me. I'm glad this is the choice I made... Best of luck to you...

Why not accounting, computers or nursing or something we really need in the US? i do not like numbers, computers, or nursing. both my mother and sister are nurses, and nurses are desperatly needed, but Nursing Teachers are need more. anyway, i have always wanted to do massage, and i plan on eveolving it into something else.... a different tyoe of massage. i would say, but it will give away my marketing secret! Art_Critic
anyway, i have always wanted to do massage, and i plan on eveolving it into something else.... Happy endings ? Nothing wrong with a reputable massage therapist.. We had a guy here at work that his wife was one.. she made close to 6 figures.. even set up her own shop.. Our company hired her for company massages for all our employees during a busy time..
Author laRubiaBonita
I'm curious to know if any of you have returned to school later in age and what were the reasons for it? my reasons are... 1.) i do not want to do what i am doing now forever. i make decent money and all, but i do not get paid enough for what i do. i am a landlord-tenant dispute mediator/ secretary/ office manager. 2.) Massage and other alternative healing is something that has always interested me. 3.) i am sick of my life at this point. it is ok, but nothing special... going to school can only help aliviate this boredom. Depending on where you live, there are massage therapy programs that last 6 months up to a year, I think. I did a 6 month program. I was too grossed out to work in massage therapy though. Especially when I did a stroke down a person's back and their dirty skin made these little flakes all over my hands.
