Wearing cologne/perfume on job interview, have you?

Recommended Posts

Just curious to see if anyone here has worn a hint of perfume/cologne on their past interviews. And whether or not it yielded positive results (regarding the interview), if the interviewer was the opposite sex of you.

This thought just came to mind recently and I'd also be inclined to do some field testing based on the responses.

Technically you shouldn't.

The person that is interviewing you might be allergic to scents and may not hire you because of it. Not saying thats always the case but it's possible.

Of course there are other reasons too.

I wear perfume every day, I have been on 7 interviews, I think, in the last 4.5 years and I was offered all but one of the jobs. 4 of the interviewers were female and 3 were male, the job I didn't get was at one where a male interviewed me. I didn't get the job because I didn't have experience.

I have heard that you are not supposed to wear any perfume/cologne, but I would tend to think that a little wouldn't be a bad thing... if you take a bath in it you probably won't get the job, but a little shouldn't hurt.
