Yoga will help you. Taking a hot bath before bed too will help. And talking yourself OUT of having negative thoughts so you can unlearn bad and negative thinking patterns.

All of what you're worrying about, you have NO control over. Whatever is going to happen, will happen, so why worry about it? I understand COMPLETELY what you are feeling and going through because I used to be the biggest worrywart!

What sorts of health problems do you have? As for the job, something will come your way, don't give up.

Start writing out your thoughts in a daily journal, this will help eliminate them popping into your head at night while trying to sleep. Don't drink coffee in the afternoon or evening, stick to decafe tea/coffee, and (very helpful) take vitamin C, multivitamin daily!!! Drink lots of water, rest when you can.

Hope this helps!

In addition to what WW said, I have a trick for stopping obsessive thoughts and getting to sleep. All the worries are in the left, logical side of your brain, the verbal side, so you have to go into your right brain which is, I think, the visual side.

This might sound kind of silly, but I make myself think only in pictures by staring at my eyelids until I see little blobs of color. I just watch them, and if I'm sleepy, my brain starts turning them into little cartoon figures, and eventually into dreams.

I don't know if I have all the brain physiology right, I just know it works.

Ha, I do that too! Sometimes those blobs are funky colours eh?

Another trick is, falling asleep with the TV on.........

This is going to sound weird.. but I always try and focus on me flying thru space into the blackhole.. since there is nothing in the blackhole except darkness that is all I focus on.. the never ending darkness..

You could also cut out all caffeine.. that will slow your thoughts down at night also..

Or take an allergy pill

If you close your eyes tightly for afew mins, then you get the colourful blobs! No drugs necessary!

I agree. My colorful blobs have been 100% natural since around 1990.

I will try this tonight. I usually count pink elephants (my backup plan).

Given enough time and a fertile imagination, colorful blobs can morph into pink elephants.

Counter the thoughts you are thinking that are keeping you awake in a TEA form. Once you recognize the errors in these thoughts like jumping to conclusions and blowing things out of proportion and you counter them with less upseting more objective thoughts your mind will be put at ease and you will not have to fight falling asleep. They will also help you eventually to worry less in gerneral if you practice them regularly.

Ahh....I do that myself. I used to do that when I was little when I had nothing to do. Plus it looked cool with the shapes and colors.

I don't know if you have any religious conviction or spiritual connection, but I swear prayer really helps.

It happened today....

Everyday at work I have endless hrs to think about anything and everything since I work in a lab, which is always quiet. The thoughts that I always obsess about is my ex, and how much I wish to call him or hear his voice.

Today I was going over, and over, and over about how I wanted to send him a txt, and it was a battle with myself because I told him to end all contact.

I miss him and just wanted to feel conforted at that moment by receiving a message from him, but then it came to me....I prayed.

With a lot of passion, concentration and devotion, I asked God to please remove those feelings and give me peace. To show me that his love is unconditional and that I don't need the love of others to feel at peace with myself. It was incredible, in a matter of a minute or two, I felt relieved, at peace and so grateful because I felt connected with God. It was an undescribable feeling....love I guess.

Anyhow, hope this helps and concentrate and believe that you will remove those worrying feeling and have instead peace in your mind.

God Bless.

  • 1 month later...

To Confused: Tell us when you get those feelings of obsession over your ex right back if you do. I am not at all religious and have tried other means like filling my days with activities from working out to volunteering to working to studying along with chores. However, I catch myself obsessing over this swoon-worthy, got-to-get-more stranger I met nearly a year and a half ago and beat myself up for not getting his name and number when he seemed interested. He was a super hard catch, I'm talking one in ten thousand at least, girls. It's very silly since we never even established a relationship b/c I was too caught up in my week and months and by the time I went back to his work location more regularly, he was nowhere to be found. I couldn't just seek the employment record as I do not have that authority to do so.

Yes, I have a strategy. Don't procrastinate during the day. Get everything done that needs to be done.

Most nights that I can't sleep...it's cause I am worrying about something that should've been done or needs to be done.
