longlegzs80
I have made a decision to help myself out and join a gym to better my health and for more energy etc. Okay, I visited one gym and they have a promotion that will end tomorrow, JAN 31st. I have a choice to pay $49.95/month for 1 year, then once I renew it would be $27.68/month. Or at the other gym, the enrollement fee is waived and I will only have to pay $35.99/month for 2 years. This facility is alot better looking and is very spacious, but the other faciliaty mentioned up above have people who are willing to work with you on achiving your goals, where as I joined before the gym that is mentioned in the second paragraph and it didn't spend any time with anyone unless you ask. I'm torn, money is tight and I would like to join the gym, and I want the better price of the 2 gyms. PLEASE, assistance is needed.

Honestly, if your set on going to the gym, I would choose the first option. Not the 2 yr. one. But you have to be careful. You have to be sure you're going to make good use of it. I joined a gym once, and I only made it a few times. I may as well have just thrown my money away.
Guest
i have a suggestion. i just joined a gym as well and if you 'partner' up with someone you save a ton and if u are a couple living together - that would just be part of the combined house stuff - its not a hers and his when it comes to wellness - that's part of the health plan couples make. and going with someone to the gym is always the best - you get to play around, and have fun and do yer workout. my gf and i do that all the time - and its the best. going to the gym alone sucks! plus, when she works out she's totally HOT! blushes
dropdeadlegs
The first gym will cost $599.40 the first year and $332.16 the second year for a two year total of $931.56. The second gym requiring a two year membership will cost $863.76 for 24 months. The cost difference is $67.80 and for that additional cost you will get assistance in achieving your goals (whatever that means.) Divide the cost difference over 24 months and it's like paying $2.83 extra per month. Another way of looking at it is that if you decide going to the gym is not worth it to you at some point, you will not be locked in for another whole year. I, too, once joined a gym and the allure quickly faded.... Is it worth it to you? You seem to like the 2nd gym's facility better. Option three would be putting your money towards purchasing two pieces of equipment that you would own forever. This is usually sale time considering new years resolutions often involve weight loss and/or better health.
polywog
Something to consider, other than price, is which one is closer to where you work or live, making it less likely for you to skip. Also, do they have other amenities like saunas, nice changing rooms, free classes or interesting classes like Pilates, Yoga, spin, and other aerobics? Those are all great options, and the one that offers more of these would probably end up being more appealing to you. Which one had the better vibe, made you feel more comfortable? Was cleaner? Had friendlier atmosphere, nice customers and staff? Which one does your mind keep wandering back to? Another thing is that even though they are offering this special, most gyms switch to a new special after the other one ends. Maybe one that will not lock you in for an entire year so you can see if this is what you really want, or give you a chance to see if you really like the place. The one that said that they would only help you with training if you asked may not be so bad; the gym I went to didn't offer training but the staff was very helpful every time I asked for advice. You may also meet people while you're there who can give you tips; I have learned a lot from other people at the gym between sets. Good luck, I think that whichever one you choose it's money well-spent, even if your money is tight.
Author longlegzs80
Hard decision. I figure for the $49.95 one, I could do it, 3 or 4 days a week and 2 days a week it is near my work so it would be easy to go over. That facility seems alittle clutered, but has alot of different classes etc. But that is just the one gym, not sure about how the other locations look. I'm wondering if I should hold off on the gym. I once too belonged to the gym that I described($35/month one) and went alot, for several months, then stopped going. But I liked it because it wasn't cluttered, had lots more equipment and different classes and everything was so spacious. I don't know. Need to make my decision soon. Thanks everyone. polywog
Maybe you just feel pressured because of the deadline of the special. Anyhow, best of luck however you decide. This thread has helped me to realize that it's time for me to reconsider joining, so thanks for starting it!

If you're not sure, I would wait. You'll be locked into a contract, and if you stop going, you may as well burn your money. Have you thought about working out at home? Get DVD's, maybe even look into like a treadmill or eliptical trainer?

Author longlegzs80
Thank you for the advice, I did decide on the gym that would be $49.95/month. I had to pay $99.00 up front for enrollment which is alot, but the $49.95/month starts in March. I will just take advantage of everything the gym has to offer and it is good that they have people who will help me stick to my goals etc. Lots of benifits and hopefully I did the right thing. IT will help me out health wise and body wise. Maybe by the summer as one of my goals I will look incredibly hot in a bikini. I will be going to the gym this friday.
dropdeadlegs
Making a healthy commitment is such a big step. I'm still too weak to do that, as weak as THAT sounds. Hope you enjoy the facilities. The fees sound a lot like car insurance, big upfront payment, then reasonable monthly payments fro that point forward.
