skimmy Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I have always wondered what hummus tastes like. Is it like anything else in any way? I don't like tofu or cottage cheese and i imagine those might be the closest tastes to hummus. Can you tell me anything? Hmm, well try to imagine pureed chick peas with pureed garlic, olive oil and lemon juice with sesame seeds ground into a paste. It's got kind of a savory and nutty flavor.... ...not that kind of nutty! TP, get your mind out of the gutter!

Author Teacher's Pet Posted March 2, 2007 Author Posted March 2, 2007 tp, I have been waiting for the weight loss info. You're not going to break your first promise to me, are you? I also want to hear about your date with the hot 25 year old so I can live vicariously through you, kinda like I am on this dieting thing. LOL..... I'll reveal my status after I actually weigh myself. I don't have a scale here, so I have to go to the gym. I've been sick for the last week, so I haven't been going. As for the woman situation, well.... we STILL haven't had that first date yet (very, VERY long story), but *crossing fingers* tonight's the night. Yes, I'll give all the nasty details. Besides, if I don't, Skimmy probably will.....she just wants me to stop whining about being horny all the time! -tp not really ALL the t-..... yeah, all the time.
dropdeadlegs Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Awww, tp, I'm so sorry you have been sick! Just wanted to say that before I leave for the weekend. Hope you are feeling better!

whichwayisup Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Hommous is good DDL....try it, you'll like it. Isn't it spelled hummous? Although, this could be the CANADIAN way of spelling it... You are right, it is delicious!

You are right, it is delicious! Wikipedia spells it hummus. I couldn't find it in my 1960 something dictionary, but that book doesn't have a lot of words in it! I bet internet isn't there. Okay, I'm convinced that I need to try this stuff, but I have never seen it in my local WalMart. Any idea where to look? Is it refrigerated? erika, I didn't quote you, but I appreciate you taking the time to explain what this stuff tastes like. You are so helpful to me! Thanks.

I actually just started on my weight loss journey not long ago, and my sister in law *who's a stick*, convinced me to try some of this stuff. She also convinced me to try soy, which is better for ya than meat, but tastes much like it. Have you tried that? And did you ever get brave enough to try low fat or fat free mayo?

Thanks again for your reply in this thread. I'm not a meat freak anyway and since my kind of dieting doesn't go over well with my kids, no, I haven't tried soy "meat" products. I just eat enough meat to try to avoid muscle loss. This stuff would be easier if I liked more foods. I enjoy a good variety of vegetables, but there are still plenty that I just don't like and I'm not a "picker outer" either. I don't want an olive or a mushroom even touching my food! Some of the veggies I like are starchy and higher cal, but I love broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage, peppers, onions, green beans, and celery in addition to the corn, potatoes, carrots and peas. I do not care for beans, however, which are higher in protein I did buy low fat mayo. Not bad, just seems a little runnier than the full fat kind. I tried Coke Zero yesterday and it is a huge improvement over Diet Coke. When it was very cold, I barely noticed it wasn't Coke. As the bottle warmed up I did perceive an aftertaste, but it was not as bad as Diet Coke and I will be drinking the Zero form on the occasions that I drink soft drinks. I hope it is (or becomes) widely available in fountain drinks.
Author Teacher's Pet Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 A song comes to mind. I kissed a girl For the first time I kissed a girl lol I think I just lost another ounce. Well, at least a couple of teaspoons..... -tp did I mention I haven't had sex in 8 1/2 months?

hotgurl Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 So is anyone still doing this thread? Or are people just joking around now? I lost 2 more lbs for a total of 24lbs. I hvae 25 more to lose so I am 1/2 way to my goal.
AriaIncognito Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Thats excellent, hotgurl. Keep up the great work :-)
Author Teacher's Pet Posted March 13, 2007 Author Posted March 13, 2007 I'm "just about" better from being sick for the better part of 2007 (thus far)..... Then, back to work. -tp sick slacker
Author Teacher's Pet Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 Hey gang! Just wanted to "check in" and see how everyone is doing on their "promises".. It's almost 3 months now, and I wish I could say I'm doing better than I have been, but it's been pure hell for me..... Lost my job, had "women problems", a sick cat, and pretty much one thing after another going wrong... it's hard to sail straight when the wind is blowing you all over the place.. But.... I do hope some of you have been doing better than me.. C'mon... I need some inspiration. -tp stuck in 1st.
dropdeadlegs Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Sorry my friend, no inspiration here. I made it about two weeks before giving up. I have gotten myself quite tanned and the lovely byproduct of a great tan is the optical illusion of appearing thinner. I bet hotgurl has made continued progress.
hotgurl Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I have lost 27 lbs so far. But I just came back from vacay and am afraid to go on the scale. Now that the weather is nice I can start walking. My goal is to do 2 miles in 30 min. I can walk 2 miles in 40 min. Once I can do a 15 minute mile I am going to start the coach potato to 3k program. only 23 more pounds to lose.

allina Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Stay at it TP, and remember, a layoff is no excuse to go for a cheeseburger, I know you can do it! I've been getting in shape recently as well.

That is a great goal and a realistic way of going about achieving it. I tried the program last fall and failed miserably at that too. I think that going from the couch to walking and then to running is a better way to go about it. After two weeks my shins hurt so bad and I just couldn't run through it. Walking first has got to be a better way.
