Motion Induced Head Pain

Recommended Posts

I'm not seeking medical advice. I've already got an appointment with the doctor.

I was just wondering if anyone else here has ever heard of this.

I've been having this weird head pain. It doesn't hurt all the time. I don't even feel it normally. Just when I tilt my head forward or step off a curb or stair or have some other little shock. Then there is this semi-sharp pain on the top left of my head.

It feels like the same pain you'd get with a hangover. It feels like if it wanted to, it could become a migraine. But it always just goes away.

Because normal movements cause it, I get reminded of it several times a day.

It's been there for over a week now.

Ever experienced this?

I went through a phase of getting a lot of sharp headachey pains in my teens, and the doctor made some vague comment about it being related to my sinuses. Hope you get it cleared up soon, Johan.

Never heard of such a thing, Johan.

I think it is related to or a result of stress. Hope it goes well.

I was going to state the same thing. Although my sinuses usually cause pain in my face (forward, cheeks) I do get pain in other areas of my head, mainly the base of my skull. I wonder if it is caused by pressure on a nerve or something.

I am interested in what your Dr. says.

I immediately thought of a pinched nerve (though usually a pinched nerve in your atlas is felt in your arm).

If the doctor can't do anything (except prescribe pain killers - which can be nice!) I'd try a chiropractor and/or an osteopath who specialises in cranial massage.

p.s. cranial massage has always knocked me out for a few hours, always schedule at the end of the day & go straight home.

The doctor told me he thought it was an inflamed nerve. He said over-the-counter anti-inflammatories would make a difference. I guess it's something that will take care of itself. I'm glad it's nothing major.

I've never had a pain like this that lasted for so long, and it was starting to worry me.

So I guess I'll live. (Sorry moderators! ha ha)

Do you also get dizzy or nauseated, ever so slightly, with this movement?

It could be an inner ear infection, throwing off your equilibrium for that moment of movement. I had that once.

Ah, too bad... you disappointed us!

K, joke on aside, did you get an MRI or a CT?

Then it might be a tumo(u)r. But for the moderators' sakes, I hope not.

Nice attempt at humo(u)r. I figure the mods had a pool going on my last post date. If it ends up being a tumor, I'm going to give my most sarcastic friend the user id and password to this account and make him promise to keep the dream alive.

I just want to be like you. I'm sorry that I suck.

F*cking brilliant. What a legacy. I'm not prepared to die just yet. An epiphany on the boards would be nice. Then I might call it a day. One bloody long day, at that.

Nope. No scans.
Johan, seriously, bad headaches can mean a lot of terrible things. Everyone I know who has complained about headache has had a brain scan done. A friend of mine turned to have epilepsy.

I am sure I sound totally ignorant and I certainly hope your doctor is right, but what if he made a mistake? People make mistakes. Perhaps you should request an MRI or something?

I'm sure you're not trying to worry him or anything. :p He didn't say it was a terrible headache. Just an on and off pain. To me, originally, it sounded like sinus pressure. If it gets worse, I would go back. But for now, I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks RecordProducer. I was going to come back here and post an update. It appears my tumor has cleared up. After over a week of that odd pain, it finally went away.

I agree with you that bad, unexplained, persistent headaches need to be treated serioulsy.

In this case, it made a lot of sense that it was just a nerve. It wasn't a headache, it was just pain caused by a particular movement. And it's better now.

Thanks again, everyone. It's such a relief to have this gone!

OK. Whew! :) Often it helps when you stop worrying. I was getting yeast infections until my gyn told me: "Stop worrying about it and don't pay attention to them unless you have symptoms that bother you!" And I did have symptoms, but when I stopped worrying, the symptoms disappeared. :)

Or hubby became faithful to me! Just kidding.

I get on and off headaches too and it hurts above my eyes - maybe its the stress of everything happening at home but sometimes it aches like hell. Mum probably wont let me go to the docs like last time and will just tell me to take painkillers - she sees herself as my personal gp *rolls eyes*

Interesting ........... I spent about a year dealing with "impact head pain". similar to "ice pick" headache pains.

stepping down too hard would cause it among other physical movements....... and oh my...... I was using a sawsall one time and thought my brain was going to fly outta my head. :lmao: now phobic of the sawsall.

I got diagnosis of tooth, sinus, nerve, possible tumor, neck problems ................... it went away.

On a rare occassion I do still get them.

I blame it on eating too many baked beans during that period of my life.

I get "cluster headaches" sometimes. Usually after a long day working out in the sun. So it's either from eye strain or from dehydration. But they hurt like hell. It feels like a muscle is locked on and is trying to pull my eye back into my head. If can get painkillers when I first feel one coming on, then it will go away. Otherwise it's excruciating.

That's not what this thing was, although it felt like it could hurt that much if it wanted to.
