Question about Engagement Ring?

Recommended Posts

My bf has been talking about getting engaged since Nov. I'm not sure if he bought a ring by now, but my question is regarding a ring. My Nan's ring. It's engraved with their names and the date my grandpa proposed. It's very special to me. The problem is, my Nana took the diamonds out so she could combine them with her mom's diamonds to make one ring (my mom has that one). I still really love the ring even though their are no diamonds. It's so sentimental. Of course I've told my bf this many times, but I told him it was up to him, since I did not want to ruin something he already planned. But the more I think about it the more I really want that ring. My question is, is it too late to request my Nana's ring. Like I said I don't know if he bought the ring already. Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Obviously the family heirllom is important to you. Maybe what your bf is doing is trying to pick a ring that represents his love to you.

It isn't something another man picked out for another woman.

If your Nana's ring is that important to you why don't you put like a birthstone or some other gem in it and where is on your right hand?

I guess I'm a bit stumped on this one. I don't understand how you can request a ring for something that hasn't been done yet (the proposal).

I would do as the above poster suggested and wear the ring as a necklace or some other sort of jewelry.

I agree with the other posters, I would get another stone maybe your birthstone (or your Nana's birthstone since it was her ring) and wear it on your right hand or on a chain as a necklace.

If you are dead set on wearing your Nana's ring as an engagement ring maybe get your mom to talk to your bf about it... or someone that he can trust not to tell you his plans for proposing.
