GoldPenny
Okay, I'm only 20 years old, but I fear that I may get pudgier just because of the aging like at 50 plus years old (not at all worried about my forties). Some experts say that there is no physiological reason for this but simply a lack of activity and overconsumption of food intake. However, other experts say the contrary. I get lightened up when I see these 50 plus years old people in Bowflex and John Basedow commercials looking bodily hotter than a lot of 20 somethings and teenagers, and I think if I just watch my workout routine, general activity, and food, I'll be perfectly fine, but I gotta see if anyone's seen any research that no matter what, without surgery, we may not be able to avoid bulges here and there. Kamille
I haven't seen any research - but I do believe that if you do your best to stay healthy and fit, then you will feel healthy and fit all you life. Your body will change, the only thing you can control is your relationship to it. I've come to realize (and I weigh the same thing now as I did when I was 14 - I'm 30 now) it's not size that matters. What I now focus on is how amazing bodies are. (sounds corny but bear with me). I now take more time to listen to my body and feel it. I eat food that make me feel alive, alert, energetic and healthy. Every morning when I wake up, i take the time to notice how relaxed and refreshed and comfortable my body feels. When I work out, I enjoy feeling how powerful my body is. And let's not forget about sex... this might not make sense to you in regards to your concerns - but believe me - it's what matters. The secret to their success is pretty easy. Watch what you eat because your metabolism is only going to slow down as you get older. Do your best to stay active and to stay awy from becoming a couch potato. Jog, work out, play tennis, and my personal fave: rollerblading. Oh yeah one last thing: don't smoke and watch the alcohol consumption. One of my good friends is in his fifties and he is still in great shape and still working a physically demanding job. Take it from this 47 year-old..... This is very true. I walk the dogs every morning, go to the gym a few times a week and have always lead a very active lifestyle i.e., horseback riding, tennis, water/snow skiing -- anything that takes me outdoors and out of the house. At 5'3" and 105 pounds, I'm in better shape now then I was as a young girl.

The last line is oftenly used in Bowflex commercials, lol, and is very inspiring to hear from you. so gold ur 20 wht got u thinking about being 50 and fat Just trying to be proactive. While I was never an American statistic of overweight (BMI higher than 24.9), I was a size eight on my 5'3" frame and averaged about a size six, getting down to a size 4, and then 2 only a few times. I have only found a lifestyle I can live with at 19 and prevent myself from getting off maintenance. The secret to their success is pretty easy. Watch what you eat because your metabolism is only going to slow down as you get older Yeah, it's not so much the success of just being thin, but very trim and sleek as well. Some fifty-somethings proclaim inevitable deterioration, the inevitable pooch, or a bulge here and there that can only be ridden of through liposcution, all without factoring genetics or lifestyle adjustment into their explanation. Now, I know there will be a time when I will no longer have youthful sleekness or as much definiton, but at around the fifties and sixties, there are people who have bodies that have proven otherwise if they are "real." PWSX3
I'm 46 and last Saturday I went for a 5 mile snow shoe hike in the mountains that is over 9,000 feet in elevation & I met up with a younger feller and passed him up. Then when I was headed back I caught up with him again so I asked; what age group would you fit into and he said; next month is my birthday and I will be 83 years old. That was impressive to me, gives me hope that I can be doing something hopefully at that age. He said he isn't near as fast as he used to be but I said at least your out here. Just keep active as long as you can even if it's just taking a walk.
