bluetuesday Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Curious, is this your hope or was it taught or read somewhere by you? i deduced it from what i know about god. there are no instances with god where what you are seen to do is more important than the state of your heart, your intention, or how you treat other people. god is no respecter of persons - which means god doesn't respect (in an ultimate sense) earthly authority, including the legal/religious authority which says 'because i say so you're now married'. if you commit to each other privately before god, the promise you make is seen and blessed by god and there's no higher authority than that. i'm not saying public commitment isn't nice, it is rather nice and if it gives you the support of your families or makes you happy or makes your commitment feel more secure, i'm sure god's all for it. but i'd bet it's no more valid in the eyes of god than a genuine private commitment.
bluetuesday Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I was wondering do Christians have sexual hangups? some christians have sexual hang ups, just like some jews do or some atheists. in other words, what religion you are (or none) isn't the only factor in whether you grow up with or develop a sexual hang up. however some christians are taught (or assume) from an early age that sex is dirty. some of the people who hear that believe it and some don't. those that do are probably more likely to develop a sexual hang up than those that don't. but i suppose it depends on your definition of a hang up. being afraid of sex (or whatever) is only one side of the coin. some people think it's fine to be highly promiscuous and shag people they hardly know. IME, that sort of behaviour is sexual self-harm and is easily as unhealthy as being afraid of sex or thinking it's inherently wrong.

There is the basic no sex outside of marriage and not marrying immediate family. Beyond that it varies. From some sects that teach against birth control or masturbation while for others anything goes between the husband/wife.

Yes, if the adulterers are fully aware of their sins, but still do, probably end up some undesirable place. but if they repent heartfully, and don't do it anymore, God would forgive them. But I won't risk that much

There is a story in Genesis where a man half way follows God's instructions and marries his brother's widow. However instead of fulfilling his duty as a husband to provide her with children he masturbates. From this The Roman Catholic Church considers masturbation to be a sin since it does not lead to children. Most other denominations consider the sin as knowingly disobeying God, not the specific act of masturbation. I don't "know" what Christ would say I take the position if I won't do it in front of my mother it is sex thus limited to marraige. Yes I think we are all sinners.
